DAY 02
Jatunyacu River — Big Water Adventure
- Today begins our first whitewater adventure on the legendary Jatunyacu River, whose name means “Big Water” in the Kichwa language.
- Launching from the Kichwa community of Cando, we paddle approximately 25 km of exciting Class III rapids, surrounded by warm tropical rainforest, playful waves, and long calm pools perfect for swimming.
- Midway through the journey, we stop at the Kichwa community of Shandia to enjoy a riverside lunch and browse beautiful handcrafted souvenirs made by local artisans.
- After reaching Puerto Napo, we continue to the magical Paikawe Lagoon, where a peaceful canoe excursion offers opportunities to observe monkeys, Hoatzins, giant Arapaima, and other Amazonian wildlife before returning to Tena for dinner and a relaxing evening.
